God Makes No Mistakes
God makes no mistakes.
On Friday, June 4, 2004, many could have doubted that statement. Five students from Crown Baptist College in Knoxville, Tennessee, were traveling west on route 60 near Indian Lake Estates, Florida. The students, aged 18-22, had volunteered to minister to local churches throughout the summer, working with children and youth ministries, assisting in building projects, Vacation Bible Schools, and in any other way the churches had need.
However, their labors of love ended at 3:15 that afternoon. A tractor-trailer crossed the center line and hit their van head on. In an instant the van burst into flames. Within moments everything had burned. Nothing remained beyond the metal frame of the van . . . except one thing.
To the amazement of one fireman, a CD in the CD player had not even melted. He pulled it out and read the title track. It read, “God Makes No Mistakes.” That fireman’s life changed that day and that of his family. And many others that we cannot fully know until we, too, stand before God.
One moment, five young believers, joyful in serving the Lord were praising His love, His power, and His goodness. The next moment, they were singing in the presence of the Lord. Did God make a mistake? If we could ask them, I believe they would affirm the words of the song still:
I know God makes no mistakes.
He leads in every path I take
Along the way that's leading me to home.
Though at times my heart would break,
There's a purpose in every change He makes,
That others would see my life and know
That God makes no mistakes.
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8
